Athyrium provides shade and shelter for insects in summer, almost evergreen in mild areas providing important winter habitats under it's leaves and in it's leaf litter.
This fern has attractive, arching triangular shaped fronds of silvery-green. Contrasting stems and veins are bright, burgundy-red with the intense colour. Colour intensity increases with the age of the plant. Makes an excellent groundcover for moist shady sites. Deciduous.
